The KARL STORZ IMAGE1 S™ 4U is a One-Chip 4K camera head designed to provide high-resolution imaging for surgical and endoscopic procedures. As part of the IMAGE1 S™ platform, it combines 4K resolution, enhanced color reproduction, and advanced visualization technologies to support detailed observation and differentiation of anatomical structures.
The camera uses a single CMOS image sensor and provides a native resolution of 3840 × 2160 pixels. Its 4K image quality delivers a high level of detail compared with Full HD, particularly when observing fine anatomical structures during endoscopic procedures.
According to KARL STORZ, the 4K technology contributes to improved brightness, image detail, and color reproduction. The camera uses progressive scanning and supports 50 Hz or 60 Hz operating frequencies, depending on the system configuration.
The IMAGE1 S™ 4U supports several visualization technologies developed by KARL STORZ. These functions allow the image presentation to be adapted to different visualization requirements and can assist in identifying specific tissue characteristics.
The camera provides up to 3× digital zoom. Several zoom levels are available, from 1× to 3×, allowing the image framing to be adjusted according to the requirements of the procedure.
The Adaptive Zoom function can also be used with compatible TC304 and TC201 components, depending on the IMAGE1 S™ system configuration.
The camera head is designed for practical handling during surgical procedures. It measures approximately 46 × 37 × 133 mm and weighs approximately 210 g, providing a compact configuration for a professional 4K camera.
It features three control buttons, including two freely programmable buttons. These controls provide quick access to selected system functions directly from the camera head, depending on the configuration in use.
The IMAGE1 S™ 4U uses the 4U-Line connection for integration with the video system. It is designed for use with the IMAGE1 S™ platform and is compatible with the IMAGE1 S™ 4U-LINK.
This architecture allows the camera to be integrated into a compatible IMAGE1 S™ imaging chain and combined with other components of the platform according to the requirements of the medical facility.
The camera features an 18 mm focal length and uses a standard eyepiece adapter for connection to compatible optical systems. This configuration allows integration with suitable KARL STORZ endoscopes and optical components.
The camera head is equipped with a non-detachable 300 cm cable. Its angled cable routing provides a practical configuration for camera handling within the operating environment.
The IMAGE1 S™ 4U is not autoclavable. It is designed to be soakable and compatible with hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂) reprocessing and wipe disinfection, in accordance with the manufacturer's applicable procedures.
The sterilization concept also supports the use of single-use sterile covers. Exact cleaning, disinfection, and reprocessing procedures must be performed according to the KARL STORZ instructions applicable to the specific configuration.
