Olympus CLV-140 Light Source

The Olympus CLV-U40 is a universal 300W xenon light source compatible with EVIS 100/130/140/200 videoscopes, OES fiberscopes, and rigid endoscopes. It has a 150W halogen backup lamp, automatic exposure control, and variable air/water feed settings.

Olympus CLV-U40 Universal Light Source

The CLV-U40 is a 300W xenon light source built to work with the full range of Olympus endoscopes. A mode selector switches it between the EVIS 100, 130, 140, and 200 series videoscopes, OES fiberscopes, and rigid endoscopes, so one unit covers a mixed equipment set.

Illumination comes from an ozone-free 300W xenon lamp rated for about 300 hours of continuous use (over 20,000 flashes). If the xenon lamp fails, a built-in 150W halogen lamp switches on automatically, and a panel indicator flags any fault in that backup system.

  • 300W xenon lamp, roughly 1.5x the light output of prior models when paired with 200-series scopes
  • Automatic exposure control for still and Polaroid photography, with manual override
  • Automatic light density adjustment for video recording, with manual override
  • Transillumination mode that boosts light output to locate the scope from outside the body, reverting after about 7 seconds
  • Variable air feed with four pressure settings (Off, Low, Medium, High) and detachable water container
  • Settings are retained after power-off via internal battery backup
  • Lamp life meter tracks cumulative xenon lamp hours

The unit measures 587(W) x 165(H) x 537(D) mm, weighs 22kg, and runs on 120V, 50/60Hz. It is classified as Class 1, Type BF equipment under IEC601-1 and meets UL544 medical/dental equipment safety standards.

The CLV-U40 connects to scopes through a single output socket, and a mode selector on the front panel adapts the light source to whichever endoscope generation is attached.

  • EVIS 100 series videoscopes — selected via the EVIS 100 mode setting.
  • EVIS 130 series videoscopes — supported under the same EVIS mode grouping as the 100 and 140 series.
  • EVIS 140 series videoscopes — the series this light source was released alongside.
  • EVIS 200 series videoscopes — selecting EVIS 200 mode is what enables the full 300W xenon output, giving roughly 1.5x the light intensity available in other modes.
  • OES fiberscopes — supported via the OES mode setting for older fiberscope-based equipment.
  • Rigid endoscopes — also supported under OES mode.
  • Detachable water container — feeds the air/water system; the unit pressurizes the container to push water through the scope. It can be removed for filling or cleaning.
  • Exchangeable filter 2 — an optional color-conversion filter selectable from the front panel (settings: filter 1, filter 2, or none).
  • Foot switch — connects to the dedicated foot switch port for hands-free control of ancillary functions.
  • AUX port — an auxiliary input on the front panel for connecting other ancillary equipment.
