Olympus EVIS CV-140: a Type BF video processor for endoscopy, with automatic white balance, adjustable iris, color and image enhancement, patient data recording, and connections for monitor, VTR, SVR, and video printer.

Olympus EVIS CV-140 Video System Center

The CV-140 is a video processor built by Olympus for use with EVIS endoscopes, light source units, monitors, and endo-therapy accessories. It converts the signal from an endoscope's image sensor into a video image for observation, freezing, and documentation, and it is intended for use by trained medical personnel during endoscopic diagnosis and treatment.

The unit is classified as Class I equipment with Type BF (body floating) protection against electric shock. It is not built to be explosion proof and should not be operated near flammable gases.

Image control

White balance is set automatically by pressing the WHITE BAL switch on the front panel. Iris can be set to AVE for normal observation or PEAK for focusing on a small bright area, and automatic gain control amplifies the image electrically when the endoscope is too far from the subject for adequate light.

  • Color tone adjustment on HSR, R, and B, each with 7 steps in either direction, plus a Chroma level adjustable from the keyboard
  • Image enhancement at LOW, MED, or HIGH to sharpen the outline of the image
  • Four contrast modes, including one reserved for image processing
  • A RESET switch that returns color tone, iris, and enhancement to their standard settings

Freeze, recording, and documentation

The endoscopic image can be frozen from the endoscope's remote switch, the keyboard, a foot switch, or the OVC switch, with a real-time image displayed on an inset subscreen while frozen. The RELEASE function then sends the captured image to a recording device.

The CV-140 can control a monitor, photography equipment, a VTR, a video printer, and a still video recorder (SVR) directly from the endoscope's remote switch, the front panel, or the keyboard, and it can send images to the SCV, a video disk, or a digital file through the keyboard.

Patient data can be entered on screen: ID number, patient name, sex, age, date of birth, date and time from the built-in clock and stopwatch, comments, and the number of exposed frames. Data for up to 40 patients can be stored in advance and recalled before an examination. Color, enhancement, and white balance settings are retained when the unit is switched off, backed up by a lithium battery rated for 5 years.

Standard set

The CV-140 ships with a keyboard, a videoscope cable, a cable holder, a light source cable, a monitor cable, a light control cable, a power cord, a white cap set, a water container, a set of foot holders, a vinyl dust cover, and the instruction manual.
